ONE ON ITS SIDE ON ROUTE 30

Company 4, Rescue 1, Ambulance 1A, and Medic 28-1 were dispatched at 1921 hrs to the area of Chambersburg Rd and Flohrs Church Rd (Box Area 4-1) for a vehicle accident. The actual incident was found to be adjacent to the Cashtown Lion's Park in the 4100 block of Chambersburg Rd. R4 (Chief Bowling) arrived with four personnel to find a single passenger car off the roadway on its side with a single occupant self extricated. Crews checked for hazards and treated the patient who was transported by ground to an area hospital.

UP, UP, AND AWAY

Box Area 4-6
Company 4, Engine 5-1, and Ambulance 6A were dispatched at 2334 hrs to the 200 block of Cashtown Rd for a vehicle accident. Chief 4 (Bowling) called en route followed by R4 (D/C Six) and E4-1 (Lt. Mooney) with 9 personnel. Fire Police Lt. Cullison arrived first advising the location was adjacent to the Mt Calvary Evangelical United Brethren Church at 228 Cashtown Rd. Responding units reported to that location to find that a VW bug had left the opposite side of the roadway, managed to climb the embankment, and came to rest in a vacant lot next to the church cemetery. With nobody found around the vehicle, the assignment was scaled back to Company 4 units only. R4 remained on the scene to assist State Police with lighting and cleared at 0024 hrs.

CASHTOWN ROAD: TAKE 2

Box Area 4-6
Company 4, Engine 5-1, and Ambulance 6A were back on the street to Cashtown Road for another vehicle accident at 0550 hrs, this time in the 600 block. Chief 4 again called en route followed by R4 (A/C Strasbaugh) and E4-1 (Lt. Mooney) with 6 personnel. Chief 4 arrived to find a single vehicle off the roadway with one patient. Crews checked for hazards and assisted EMS and returned to service at 0620 hrs.

Not long after backing into the station, Company 4 was dispatched at 0636 hrs for the vehicle fire at the intersection of Short Cut Rd and Chambersburg Rd (Box Area 4-2). Chief 4 (Bowling) and E4-1 (A/C Strasbaugh) responded on the run, arrived to find an overheated motor with no fire, and quickly cleared at 0644 hrs.


FIRST DUE BOX TO CLOSE THE DAY OUT

To finish out an unusually busy day at the 4 house, Box Alarm 4-1 was sounded at 1955 hrs, just minutes after the close of the department's monthly meeting, for the vehicle on fire next to the house at 419 Seven Stars Rd. Chief 4 (Bowling) checked on the air immediately followed in rapid succession by E4-1 (D/C Six), T4 (FF Pritt), and R4 (FF Bowling) with 10 personnel. Adams County Control advised responding units that they received the report of a well involved vehicle fire within 5 feet of the house. Smoke was visible in the area and Chief 4 arrived to confirm dispatch. The fire was quickly knocked by E4-1's crew. After confirming no extension into the overhanging porch Command held the box to Company 4 and EMS. Company 4 returned to service at 2058 hrs.

ENGINE AND TANKER ON THE CUMBERLAND TWP BOX

The pre-alert tones sounded for the 1-4 Box at 2336 hrs for 35 Belmont Rd. Engine 4-1 and Tanker 4 were alerted with other first alarm units for a vehicle on fire with extension to a garage. T4 (A/C Strasbaugh) responded on the box followed within seconds by E4-1 (Chief Bowling) w/ a crew of 6. Chief 1 arrived on the scene confirming dispatch and requested the dispatch of 2nd alarm tankers. He advised E1-2 to lay a supply line from the intersection of Chambersburg Rd and Belmont Rd to the scene with T4 assigned to drop the portatank at that location and have E4-1 set up to draft and pump the supply line. The fire was extinguished rather quickly by E1-2's crew. Overhaul was performed while the water supply operation was broken down and Company 4 units were in service at 0115 hrs. Company 4 had a total of 14 members turn out for the alarm. Thanks to E2-1 (Fairfield) for transferring to our station during the incident.

ENGINE AND BRUSH COVER DURING GFD's CARNIVAL

June 30, 2012
Engine 4-1 and Brush 4 with 6 personnel made the annual trip to the Gettysburg Fire Dept. carnival at the Gettysburg Rec Park to cover for the evening. Engine 4-1 teamed up with Rescue 20 (Littlestown) to cover calls for Engine 1 and Rescue 1, respectively. Brush 4, 19, and 27 were assigned to strategic locations around the area during the fireworks display which was postponed by one night due to rain. Both units returned home without handling any calls. Thanks to GFD for the invitation and hospitality!
