MAKE-A-WISH CONVOY

May 1, 2011
Engine 4-1 participated in the annual Make-A-Wish convoy again this year. The normal flow of the convoy was abruptly interrupted this year when several vehicles participating in the convoy were involved in a serious collision on US Route 15 northbound between the exits for Routes 394 and 234. The crew from E4-1 (FF Pritt and President Hochberg) assisted with initial patient care until the rescue assignment was dispatched and EMS units started to arrive. Our thoughts are with those injured in this unfortunate accident.

THREE CRITICALLY INJURED IN GARAGE FIRE

May 17, 2011
Franklin Twp
Box Area 4-2
At 1839 hrs, the structure assignment for Box 4-1 was dispatched for the report of a building fire with burn victims alerting Companies 4, 1, 5, 27, RIT 6, Ambulance 1A and Medic 28-1.

Immediately following dispatch, the location was corrected to 4246 Chambersburg Rd, placing the incident in Box Area 4-2. The original box assignment was held on the call. While responding, Adams County Control advised they had reports of multiple burn patients and had added two additional BLS units and an additional ALS unit, alerting Ambulances 2A and 6A and Medic 28-2.

Engine 4-1 (D/C Bowling) responded w/6 followed shortly by Engine 4-3 (Chief Nagle) w/2 and Squad 4 (Lt Kane) w/7. E4-1 arrived to find a single-story attached garage with smoke showing from Side A and multiple obvious patients outside of the structure. D/C 4 established Command while crews forced entry and made an interior attack and EMS personnel tended to the patients. The fire was quickly knocked by E4-1's crew and the incident was declared under control within 15 minutes of arrival. Extension proved negative and the efforts of incoming crews were directed toward ventilation and overhaul.

Air medical had been requested for the three patients with E2-1 dispatched to establish a landing zone at the Cashtown ball field. Due to inclement weather, all aviation was grounded. E2-1 was diverted from the landing zone to transfer to Company 4 and all EMS units commenced transport by ground. All three patients were subsequently air lifted to area burn centers with critical injuries.

Units started being released within an hour with Companies 4 and 27 remaining to complete overhaul. Company 4 cleared the scene at 2043 hrs.

Fire Units: E4-1, E4-3, SQ4, E5-1, SU5, ET27, E27, E1-2, TK1, R6
EMS Units: AMB 1A, AMB 2A, AMB 6A, AMB 6A-1 (canceled en route), FL AMB 7-8, M28-1, M28-2

TANKER 4 STATUS UPDATE

May 26, 2011
The chassis is tentatively scheduled to go on the line at International during the first full week of June. Assuming there are no further delays at International, the chassis should be delivered to 4 Guys by the end of June and we are still being told to expect delivery around September. We're keeping our fingers crossed!
