March 31, 2011
Hamiltonban Twp
Box Area 16-3
The box alarm was sounded just after 0500 hrs for a structure fire in the 1600 block of Newman Rd, an unimproved portion of roadway in a very remote area that runs through the Michaux State Forest. At 0513 hrs, Engine 4-1 and Squad 4 were alerted to the fill the assignment for failed units. E4-1 (D/C Bowling) and SQ4 (FF Mooney) responded on the run with 8 personnel as well as FP 4-2. Engine/Tanker 27 (A/C 27 - Elliot) was first arriving to find a single-story cabin well involved and began attacking the fire as additional units arrived. Due to structural instability, including a significantly sagging roof, the operations was declared exterior only. E4-1 and SQ4 crews set up lighting and then began assisting with the time consuming task of removing the metal roofing so the fire could be completely extinguished. Overhaul was performed and Company 4 units were clear at 0757 hrs.
