Engine 4-1 was alerted at 0948 hrs to transfer to Company 22 (Barlow) while they assisted at the scene of a house fire in the Lake Heritage development in Company 1's first due. E4-1 (D/C Bowling) transferred with 3 personnel and was available at 1221 hrs with no calls handled while transferred.

 


AFTERNOON FIELD FIRE

Company 4 and Ambulance 2A were dispatched at 1325 hrs to the 800 block of Old Route 30 for a field fire. B4 (Capt. Strasbaugh) responded with 2 and arrived to find a 60' x 60' area of hay field burning with the fire extending into the uncut portion of the field. E4-1 and E4-3 both responded driver only and five additional members responded directly to the scene. E5-1 and ET27 were also dispatched to assist. The fire was under control within 15 minutes and crews continued to mop up for short time, ensuring the perimeter was well soaked. All units were in service at 1421 hrs.

MINOR INJURIES IN HOLIDAY CRASH

Company 4, Engine 5-1 and Ambulance 1A were alerted at 1637 hrs to the intersection of Chambersburg Rd and Hilltown Rd for a vehicle accident. D/C 4 (Bowling) was first arriving, reporting two vehicles in the middle of the intersection with three injured and requested two additional BLS units and an ALS unit, bringing Ambulances 2A and 6A and Medic 28. E4-1 (A/C Six) responded with 5 personnel followed shortly by SQ4 (Capt Strasbaugh) w/ 3.

The crews from both units started patient care until the arrival of the EMS units and took care of fluid control. Company 4 cleared the scene at 1718 hrs after the EMS units commenced transport.

TRACTOR TRAILER CRASH CLOSES ROUTE 30 FOR HOURS

Company 4, Rescue 1 and Ambulance 1A were dispatched at 1641 hrs to the intersection of Chambersburg Rd (US 30) and Crooked Creek Rd for a vehicle accident. D/C 4 (Bowling) checked up immediately after dispatch and was first arriving, confirming a tractor trailer accident with two utility poles broken off and wires down in the area.

SQ4 (A/C Six) responded with 5 personnel followed by E4-1 (FF Reynolds) with 2. The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured. R1 was placed in service while responding. A "County-wide" request for fire police was made and the roadway was closed in both directions well into the evening until the power company could install new poles and reassemble the downed wires.

FINALLY!

The tanker chassis arrived at the 4 Guys factory today. The Department has signed off on the final drawings so construction should start soon.


ONE PINNED IN SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH

Company 4, Rescue 1, Ambulance 1A and Medic 28-1 were alerted at 1623 hrs to the intersection of Chambersburg Rd (US 30) and Flohrs Church Rd for a vehicle accident with entrapment. D/C 4 (Bowling) checked up immediately after dispatch and was first arriving, confirming a single vehicle into an embankment with one confined and a utility pole broken off with wires down in the area. SQ4 (Capt Strasbaugh) arrived with a crew of 6 and went to work on initiating patient care and freeing the victim the vehicle. E4-1 (FF Bowling) arrived with 3 personnel and assisted the squad crew. Extrication was completed within 6 minutes of arrival.

R1 also responded and was advised to anticipate a possible helicopter landing zone assignment. The decision was later made to transport the patient by ground and R1 was placed in service.

Company 4 units cleared the scene at 1654 hrs with fire police and PA State Police remaining for traffic control.

As can be seen in the last photo, the westbound vehicle crossed the eastbound lane and exited the roadway striking a guide wire and breaking off a utility pole before coming to rest on the embankment.

With nearly every squad in Franklin County committed on calls, Squad 4 was dispatched to transfer to Franklin County Company 7 (Fayetteville VFD) at 1845 hrs. SQ4 (A/C Six) handled the request with 5 personnel. Shortly after arriving, Local Alarm 7-5 was alerted for a gas meter struck in front of 120 Mont Alto Rd in Greene Twp. SQ4 along with Franklin E7-1 and A7-8 responded to find that a car had backed over the gas meter and crews evacuated the adjacent areas. Upon clearing the incident, SQ4 returned to Adams County after being released from the transfer by Chief 7.
