ODOR INVESTIGATION

The box alarm pre-alert tones dropped at 0725 hrs for an odor of smoke in a house at 126 Bottom Rd, alerting Engine 4-1. E4-1 (Capt Six) responded with six personnel. Company 27 units arrived on the scene advising the house was located back a long driveway. Due to the poor conditions caused by freezing rain, Command 27 advised all incoming units to stage on the hard road. Command advised they were investigating an electrical odor in the house and requested E4-1's crew to walk back the lane to assist. Company 4 personnel checked the second floor and attic while 27's crew investigated a possible malfunction with a heating pump in the basement, which was later confirmed to be the source. E4-1 was available at 0805 hrs.

WORKING GARAGE FIRE

February 6, 2011

Engine 4-1 was alerted at 1939 hrs to the 6200 block of Chambersburg Rd for a building fire. Company 27 units arrived at 6215 Chambersburg Rd to confirm a 20' x 40' garage, well involved. E4-1 (Capt Six) responded with six personnel and was instructed to reverse lay a supply line from E27 to a hydrant at the Village of Laurel Run. After dumping all 1,000' of 5" supply line and not being within sight of the hydrant, E4-1 requested another engine to complete the lay. Franklin E7-2 dropped several hundred more feet of line to complete the lay and established the water supply. The crew assisted with extinguishment and overhaul operations. After racking all the supply line, E4-1 returned available at 2232 hrs. Chief 27 (Spielman) had Command.

ONE TRAPPED ON U.S. ROUTE 30

Rescue Squad 4 was alerted at 2144 hrs along with Company 27 and Franklin MICU 7-8 to the intersection of Chambersburg Rd (Rte 30) and Buchanan Valley Rd (Rte 234) for a vehicle accident with entrapment. Deputy Chief 27 (Parr) arrived to confirm a passenger car partially under a tractor trailer with one trapped. Engine/Tanker 27 arrived and started the extrication. SQ4 (Chief Nagle) arrived with seven personnel and deployed the hydraulic tools to assist with the extrication. A complete roof removal was performed and the patient was removed and treated by MICU 7-8 and transported to a local trauma center by ground due to aviation being grounded because of weather conditions. SQ4 was available at 2226 hrs. An additional seven personnel remained on stand-by at the station during the incident.

MULTIPLE OUTBUILDINGS OFF IN MOUNT CARMEL

Company 4 and Ambulance 2A were alerted at 2131 hrs to the 1200 block of Mount Carmel Rd for the investigation of an unknown type fire. Within a minute of the original dispatch, Adams County Control filled out the first alarm assignment for a barn fire at 1218 Mount Carmel Rd. E4-1 (Capt Six) responded with six personnel, followed by E4-3 (Lt Kane) w/2 and SQ4 (FF Keefer) w/4. Company 4 units arrived to find a hay barn along with several smaller outbuildings on fire along with an exposure problem to a nearby house. Multiple lines were deployed for exposure protection and extinguishment and water supply was established at a pond to the rear of Knouse Foods in the village of Orrtanna. The fire was marked under control at 2218 hrs and personnel worked for several more hours performing extensive overhaul operations, clearing the scene at 0025 hrs. Including direct responders and fire police, Company 4 operated on the scene with 25 personnel.

BACK AGAIN

Engine 4-1 was alerted at 1455 hrs back to 1218 Mount Carmel Rd to extinguish several hot spots from the previous night's fire. Engine/Tanker 27 was requested for additional water. Units cleared at 1618 hrs.

FIRST DUE SHED FIRE

Companies 4, 27 and 5 and Ambulance 2A were alerted at 0953 hrs to 2714 Old Route 30 for a shed fire. Engine/Tanker 27 and Brush 27 were on the air returning from a call in Franklin County and were first arriving, reporting a 20' x 20' wood shed back a long driveway, fully involved. Engine 4-1 (Capt Six) arrived shortly thereafter with 6 personnel and worked with 27's crew to put a knock on the fire. Engine 27 proceeded back the driveway to provide their water and all other units staged at the end of the lane until being released. Crews completed overhaul operations and the box was available at 1059 hrs.

MINOR INJURIES IN MORNING COLLISION

Box Area 4-4
Company 4, Engine/Tanker 27 and Ambulance 2A were dispatched at 0833 hrs to the 2500 block of Old Route 30 for a vehicle accident. Crews arrived to find a single vehicle off the roadway that had struck a utility pole. The single occupant was treated and transported by EMS. All units were clear of the scene at 0902 hrs.
