THREE VEHICLE CRASH AT TICK-TOCK

Company 27, Squad 4, and Franklin Ambulance and Medic 7 were dispatched at 1226 hrs to the intersection of Chambersburg Rd (US-30) and Buchanan Valley Rd (PA-234) (locally known as the "Tick-Tock") for a multiple vehicle collision. SQ4 assisted EMS with patient care and packaging and was available at 1323 hrs.

FATAL COLLISION AT THE COUNTY LINE

At 0627 hrs, Company 27 and Squad 4 were dispatched for a vehicle accident with entrapment in the area of Bobby A's Grill & Bar at 6880 Chambersburg Rd in Franklin Twp (Box Area 27-7). At the same time, Franklin County was dispatching a similar assignment to the 10000 block of Lincoln Way East in Greene Twp. It was determined that the incidents were one in the same and all reports were indicating a serious collision involving multiple vehicles with rollover and entrapment. The full assignments from both counties were held on the call and the location was found to be just inside Franklin County involving three vehicles. One patient had to be extricated, three were transported to area hospitals, and one was pronounced dead at the scene. SQ4 was available at 0700 hrs.

DUAL ENGINE RESPONSE FOR THE HOUSE FIRE

At 1429 hrs, Companies 2, 3, Franklin 4, and Frederick 6 were dispatched to 2115 Mount Hope Rd for a house fire. At 1437 hrs, Engines 4-1 and 4-3 were dispatched along with Franklin Ambulance 4-8 to fill the assignment for failed units on the initial alarm. E4-1 (FF Strasbaugh) and E4-3 (Lt Kane) responded with 6 personnel. First arriving units found a working fire in a bedroom located in Quadrant B of a rancher with extension to the attic. An interior attack was made and the fire was held to the area of origin; however, the entire home suffered smoke and water damage. Several family "pets" were saved, including a number of large snakes. One family cat perished in the fire. Multiple EMS units were on scene to assist with rehab operations, Special Unit 2 was dispatched to establish a fill site at Strawberry Hill, and two additional engines (E1-1 from Co 2 and FL E2-1 from Co 3) were requested to assist with overhaul operations. Company 4 cleared the scene at 1701 hrs. E5-1 (Arendtsville) transferred to Company 4 during the incident.

At 1708 hrs, while returning from the house fire, Engine 4-1 was dispatched in place of Engine 1-1 (still on the house fire) along with Brush 4 and Rescue 1 to 35 Glenwood Dr in Highland Twp (Box Area 1-4) for a brush fire. Engine 5-1 (transferred to Co 4) also responded. R1 was diverted to a vehicle fire in Gettysburg Boro. E4-1 was first arriving to find a 5' x 10' area of brush that had caught fire from a homeowner dumping ashes from his fireplace. The homeowner had extinguished the fire prior to fire dept arrival and all units returned service at 1726 hrs.

OUTSIDE INVESTIGATION

March 20, 2010

Box Area 4-2
At 2028 hrs, Company 4 and Ambulance 2A were dispatched to the 600 block of Orrtanna Rd for an unknown type fire outside. Brush 4 arrived to find a controlled burn next to 440 Orrtanna Rd. Engine 4-1 and the Chief (Nagle) arrived shortly thereafter and deployed the 1" forestry line to extinguish the fire. Units cleared the scene at 2054 hrs.
