FIRST DUE BOX ALARM

April 2, 2010
Franklin Twp
Box Area 4-3
The box alarm pre-alert was sounded at 0756 hrs for smoke coming from the building across from 100 Mount Carmel Rd. Adams County Control advised responding units that the caller reported smoke coming from the Columbia Gas substation in Orrtanna. Engine 4-1 (FF Strasbaugh) was first arriving and found what appeared to be steam venting from the pipelines next to the 10' x 15' substation. Assistant Chief 4 (Markel) arrived a minute later and assumed Command followed by Engine 2-1 (A/C 2 - Koons). The steam was determined to be the result of an activated pressure relief valve and the box was reduced to E4-1 and E2-1. Crews awaited the arrival of Columbia Gas personnel and returned to service at 0856 hrs.

Units: E4-1, E2-1 | canceled en route: ET27, T6, TK1
